Clipping videos for content

It is more important than ever to stand out on social media, but it has never been more challenging to actually get eyes on your content. In my experience, the most intriguing content is usually both informative and easy to consume. That is exactly where video comes in.

The Power of Video

Video is one of the most versatile formats you can use. It is visually engaging, it can be listened to while people are multitasking, and it naturally holds attention longer than a static post. On top of that, most major social platforms reward video by giving it a boost in their algorithms. If you want reach and engagement, video is one of the smartest bets you can make.

Wait…So I Need Commercials?

Nope! You do not need a production studio, a big budget, or a full team to make video work for you. One of the easiest ways to start is by clipping content you already have into short, snackable videos. A single podcast, demo, or webinar can be repurposed into multiple clips that live well on TikTok, Reels, LinkedIn, or even in an email newsletter.

What’s Overlap?

Overlap is one of my favorite tools for this process. You upload a video file or URL, and it automatically clips the content for you. It understands the natural breaks and key topics in your video so the clips feel polished, not random. Instead of cutting at awkward moments, it captures complete ideas in a way that is concise and compelling. You can also use their agent features to request specific time lengths or cutting specifications.

You can start with almost anything you already have:

  • A podcast appearance

  • A product demo

  • A company event recording

  • A webinar or talk you gave

Upload the video to Overlap, and its agent will generate multiple smaller clips that you can immediately use across different platforms.

But I Don’t Have Video!

That is fine too. You can repurpose other forms of content. Maybe you heard something valuable on a podcast that your audience would appreciate. You can clip that moment and add your own perspective when sharing. Just make sure you give proper credit and avoid copyright issues.

But I Don’t Have Video!

Short-form video fits how people consume content today. It meets them where they are, whether they want a quick scroll on social media or a bite-sized insight in their inbox. And with AI-powered clipping tools like Overlap, you do not have to start from scratch. You can take the content you already have, break it into the best parts, and let those clips do the heavy lifting.
